As I described in a previous entry, the movie will start with our protagonist getting bumped off her flight home after a particularly bad 3-day trip. This causes her much frustration and incites in her the desire for change. It also leads her to start a blog. (BTW, I watched Bridget Joneses' Diary yesterday and realized that it begins very similarly to this.)
Elena (our protagonist) starts thinking about a change of path, but doesn't take action until the first turning point: Legacy Airlines announces plans to layoff several thousand flight attendants. Fearing she will be affected, Elena goes in search of another career (and ASAP!)
Act Two consists of Elena struggling to find a new career, but instead only finding dead ends and disappointments. She's relieved to find out afterward that she will, in fact, not be affected by the layoffs. In the meantime she has realized being a flight attendant isn't so bad after all. Surely all the perks are worth the occasional frustrations, right?
Also in Act Two, our heroine finds romance on a layover and starts a long distance relationship. She thinks this will work out better than dating someone back home, since she's never there anyway. I won't disclose the conclusion of this subplot.
There will be another subplot about a "Long-Suffering Frequent Flier," which will conclude here.
The second turning point will be: SURPRISE! Just when things are going smoothly, Elena is fired from her job because of her blog and decides to sue Legacy (her airline). A publicity blitz ensues (and our heroine, like Bridget Jones, is a horrendous public speaker) and then the Climax and Resolution, which I'm not gonna disclose here either.
Any thoughts?
P.S. I forgot to mention the tone of the movie will be similar to Bridget Joneses Diary (a comedy) with some Scrubs-style absurd fantasies/flashbacks.

This is what Polarbear on MySpace had to say. Do you agree with him?

If we are compareing to Bridget Jones, should'nt the first scene be that you are looking to desperately stay in the industry? Not exit it. The whole Bridget Jones story line was based on her staying in media and eventually making it up the ranks from low-level PR to TV.
Your first scenes are saying you want out of Airline Hostessing. So why would the viewer have any sympathy or compassion when you do get your original 1st scene wish.
Maybe the first scenes should be more about how hard the job is and showing some situations which you had to do things beyond the normal job description to keep your job.
Then you started your blog to complain about how hard it is to keep an average paid job which you love but then the f$%^ers in charge sack you just for keeping a blog.
Then you have the viewers on your side.
I think the whole looking for another career/desire for change line will not help this screenplay. We have to feel that our heroine is determined to be and stay an air hostess.
Otherwise we think hey just leave it and pursue that career whatever it maybe. Realtor, Screenplay writer etc. Nice idea and nice for the later scenes ;-) but the beginning we need to see the injustice of the whole real story.

Polarbear, Bridget Jones is about a girl who's trying desperately not to be single for another "Turkey Curry Buffet"...it's at heart a romantic comedy. When Darcy makes rude comments about her at the party within earshot (that she's a bumbling spinster, or something like that), that's the inciting incident, which leads to her starting her diary. The reason she changes jobs is to get away from her boss Daniel who's "shagging" another girl. The storyline in Bridget Jones is therefore not about her career search.
Thanks for your comments, I'll meditate on them and talk to my production company about them. I don't want this movie to be a big cliche, however, as my life isn't a cliche. A View From a Top is a very cliched movie about flight attendants... I don't want to repeat that. BTW, most of my flight attendant friends are desperate to get out of the airline industry at the moment.
Maybe something about where the firing happens and thenas ya go along in the movie show flash backs of how the whole thing started and work your way up to where the movie began with the firing, show how hard the application process was to get the job in the first place and maybe a scee with elena walking out of a lawyers office or say into a media circus waiting outside and her ahving to "comment"
Hi there Ellen! I just saw your bulletin on Myspace (My name is JennyJet-- www.myspace.com/msparis). I have been a flight attendant for 4 years now for Skywest(delta connecion and united express) and also worked 1 year for USAirways before 9/11. If you need any feedback or want to talk please email me at Jengilles@gmail.com or talk to me on myspace, I have been reading you blog since way BEFORE all the drama with Delta and would LOVE to help you out.
Best,
Jenny
You're SO creative! Taking ideas from other sources! That's awesome! I wish everyone could lose their job and then ride their fifteen minutes of fame as long as possible. Wow!

I watched the special features on the Bridget Joneses Diary DVD. In one of them writer Helen Fielding admits to stealing her plot from Jane Austen. At least I won't be accused of stealing my plot from anyone!
It's Bridget Jones' Diary or, if you must, Bridget Jones's Diary but not Joneses ;-)
