So, for research purposes I rented the first season of Mile High (British show) recently. I finally got around to watching it last week and barely made it through the first episode! It's soft porn disguised as a soap opera about flight attendants. And all the flight attendants are portrayed as whores, thieves or drug dealers! Really a crap show!
Speaking of shows about flight attendants, I'm currently writing the pilot script for my show idea :) I'm really excited about it. My screenwriting class really got me motivated to finally do it. And next week I'm off to L.A. to an intensive screenwriting seminar. Fun times!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I was watching clips of Mile High. Hehehehe
It does start out that way but I found they eased off the sleaze a bit as the show went on. They actually had some really funny storylines, stuff that has happened to crew I know and although a lot of it was OTT, we have all dealt with:
* nazi flight supervisors
* colleagues stuggling with sexuality
* layover shenanigans
* crew with drinking/drug problems
* having to be jumpseat shrinks
* love life dramas
Though I suppose Aussie & Brits have a similar sense of humour so Americans probably don't 'get' a lot of the jokes...

I thought it was tasteless and offensive (a least the pilot episode--although, I had seen some partial episodes on BBC America before and had a similar reaction).
Not only did they portray flight attendants in a poor light, but also gay men (they're drug dealers who pray on straight men!) and Spaniards (they're all theives!) The one portrayal I agreed with was the pilot--yes, in my experience they're mostly sleazy cheaters.
Give it a chance... Many shows have rocky pilots episodes. Shows are trying to cram much stuff into a tiny package. The Marco/gay guy story line actually ends up being one of the sweetest. He will do anything to help Marco EVEN THOUGH MARCO is straight!! Yes the show is crazy in many respects. But let's face it. It is EU television. The first episode was to catch people off guard. Queer as Folk started out crazy and in many aspects mellowed over time... Anyway. My REAL flying career has MANY ideas for your writing mill as of late. Just today had a double medical emergency (wish they trained for that) an a-hole pax who was perturbed that two people had the nerve to fall ill on HIS flight, AND a dreamy doctor assist who I er... the flight attendant checked out during boarding. I felt like I was in an episode of your new show! lol. Thought of you the other day. Went to our new Whole foods. Not quite as cool or big as the flagship, but many ideas and concepts carried directly over with minimal dilution. Talk to you soon Ellen. -Dave
